How to add a world clock widget on Android: Pixel, Samsung and other phones
Updated
Add your cities in the Clock app's World Clock tab first. Then touch and hold an empty spot on the home screen, tap Widgets, open Clock and drag a world clock or dual clock widget onto the screen. Samsung's Dual clock widget lets you pick its cities; Pixel's world clock widget uses the cities from the Clock app.
Android phones all come with a clock widget, but how you get several time zones on the home screen depends on who made your phone. Google's Pixel, Samsung's Galaxy phones and most other brands ship their own Clock app with their own widgets. This guide covers the common route, then the Pixel and Samsung specifics, and ends with a third-party option for when the built-in widgets are too limited.
Menus change between Android versions and manufacturer skins (Android 15 and 16, One UI 7 and 8, OxygenOS and so on). If a label is slightly different on your phone, look for the closest match.
The general way: any Android phone
- Add cities in your Clock app. Open Clock, go to the World clock tab and add the cities you need. Most widgets read this list.
- Open the widget picker. Touch and hold an empty spot on the home screen, then tap Widgets.
- Find the Clock widgets. Scroll or search for Clock. Look for a widget called World clock or Dual clock. A plain Digital or Analog clock usually shows only your own time.
- Place it. Touch and hold the widget, drag it onto the home screen and let go. Some widgets open a settings screen right away. That's where you choose the cities.
- Resize it. Touch and hold the placed widget, then drag its handles. Bigger widgets often fit more cities.
If your launcher has no world clock widget, a third-party world clock app is the way to go (see below).
Google Pixel: the Clock app's world clock widget
On Pixel phones the Clock app is made by Google.
- Open Clock and tap World Clock.
- Tap Add (or the + button), search for a city and tap it. To reorder, touch and hold a city and drag it. To remove one, swipe it away.
- Go to the home screen, touch and hold an empty spot and tap Widgets.
- Open Clock and drag the World clock widget onto the home screen.
The widget shows the cities from your World Clock list. To change them, change the list in the Clock app.
Two settings in Clock → Settings help when you travel. Home time zone sets which zone counts as home. Automatic home clock adds a clock for home when you're in a different time zone.
Samsung Galaxy: Dual clock and World clock widgets
Samsung's One UI has its own Clock app and widgets.
- Open Clock, tap World clock and add cities with +.
- Touch and hold an empty spot on the home screen and tap Widgets.
- Tap Clock. You'll see several clock widgets. Pick Dual clock to show two places. Some One UI versions also offer a World clock widget.
- Drag the widget onto the home screen. For Dual clock, a settings screen lets you choose the cities. You can open it again later from the widget's settings.
A second time zone on the Samsung lock screen
Samsung has a lock screen feature called Roaming clock. When your phone is roaming abroad, it shows your home time next to the local time on the lock screen (and, if you choose, on the Always On Display). Find it in Settings → Lock screen (called Lock screen and AOD in recent One UI versions) → Roaming clock, and set your Home time zone there.
Roaming clock only appears when you're actually in another time zone. If you want a colleague's city on your lock screen all the time, newer One UI versions let you add widgets to the lock screen in the same Lock screen settings. Which Clock widgets are offered there depends on your version.
OnePlus, Xiaomi, Motorola and others
Most brands follow the general steps above: add cities in their Clock app, then look in the widget picker for a world clock or dual clock widget. Names differ from brand to brand, and some launchers don't include a multi-city widget at all. If your phone's widget shows only one or two time zones, or doesn't let you pick the cities, use a third-party app.
A third-party option: Timeslide
Timeslide is a world clock we make. In the app each city is a card, and dragging any card sideways moves one shared time across all of them in 15-minute steps. It's the quickest way to answer “what time is 4 pm in Chicago for everyone else?” without doing the maths. You can rename cards (“Mum”, “Office”) and the real city name stays visible.
On Android, Timeslide has four home screen widgets. Find them in the widget picker under Timeslide:
- City: one city's time and weather.
- Two cities: two places side by side, a classic dual clock.
- Cities: a scrolling list of the cities you pick.
- Forecast: one city's time with the weather for the next hours.
When you place a widget, a settings screen asks which cities it should show, from the ones in your Timeslide list. It also offers a theme, 12- or 24-hour time, weather on or off, an optional country line and text size. Each widget keeps its own settings, so a work list and a family pair can sit on the same screen.
Quick Settings tile
Timeslide also adds a Quick Settings tile that shows the time in the first two cities on your list. Swipe down from the top of the screen to open Quick Settings, tap the edit (pencil) button and drag the Timeslide tile into your active tiles. The edit button sits in a different place on Pixel, Samsung and other phones, but it's always in the expanded Quick Settings panel.
If you set up meetings, Timeslide Pro adds Best time to meet. It looks through the next seven days for the first stretch of weekday working hours when every city on your list is at work, and a tap moves the time slider there.
Timeslide is free for up to three cities, with no ads and no account. More cities need Timeslide Pro.
FAQ
How do I add a dual clock widget on Android?
Touch and hold an empty spot on the home screen, tap Widgets, open Clock and look for a Dual clock or World clock widget. Samsung phones have a Dual clock widget built in. On other phones, a third-party app such as Timeslide offers a two-city widget.
Why does my Android clock widget show only one time zone?
The basic Digital and Analog clock widgets show your own time only. Use your Clock app's world clock or dual clock widget instead, and make sure the cities are added in the Clock app's World clock tab.
Can I show two time zones on the Android lock screen?
On Samsung phones, Roaming clock shows home and local time on the lock screen while you're abroad. On other phones it depends on the manufacturer and Android version: some allow lock screen widgets, others don't.
Do Android world clock widgets handle daylight saving time?
Yes. Clock apps and widgets use each city's time zone rules, so offsets update on their own when clocks change.
How many cities can an Android world clock widget show?
It depends on the widget and its size. Samsung's Dual clock shows two, and list-style widgets fit more as you make them bigger. Timeslide's Cities widget scrolls, so it can hold more cities than fit on screen at once.
