Privacy Policy

Timeslide is a world clock. It doesn't need to know who you are, so it doesn't ask. This page explains exactly what leaves your device, where it goes and why.

Who we are

Timeslide (the apps for iPhone, Android, Apple Watch and Mac, and this website) is made by 99 Francs Agency (“we”). For anything about privacy, write to [email protected].

What stays on your device

Your cities, their order, your theme and other settings, and your widget choices are stored on your device. On Android, an anonymous copy of some of them is also sent to us to improve the app (see Anonymous usage statistics). On iPhone, Apple Watch and Mac nothing is sent to us.

What leaves your device, and why

ServiceWhat is sentWhy
Open-MeteoThe latitude and longitude of the cities in your list. Like any web request, it also carries your device's IP address. To show the weather forecast on your cards and widgets. No names, labels or anything about you are sent. You can turn weather off in Settings. See Open-Meteo's terms.
Apple iCloudYour cities and settings, if iCloud sync is on (iPhone, Apple Watch, Mac).To keep your devices in step. The data is stored in your own iCloud account under Apple's privacy policy; we can't access it. You can turn sync off in Settings.
Google backupYour cities and settings (Android).Android's built-in backup restores them on a new phone. It is stored in your Google account under Google's privacy policy; we can't access it. You can turn backup off in Android settings.
ipapi.co / ipwho.isYour IP address, once, on the first launch of the Mac app (and when you tap “Find my city”).To put the city you're in at the top of the list. Only the approximate coordinates are used, to pick the nearest city; nothing is stored by us.
Google Play / App StoreYour purchase of Timeslide Pro, if you buy it (Google Play on Android; the App Store on Apple devices, where offered). The store handles the payment under its own terms and privacy policy. The app only learns whether you have Pro, to unlock more cities; we never see your name, email or payment details.

Anonymous usage statistics (Android and iPhone)

From version 1.6 the Android app (and from version 1.2 the iPhone app) sends anonymous usage statistics to our own server (hosted by Railway), so we can see which features people use and fix what doesn't work. The app creates a random install ID on your phone; it isn't linked to your name, email, Google account or advertising ID, and a new one is made if you reinstall. With it the app sends:

Our server uses your IP address only to look up the country and doesn't store it. We keep these statistics while the app is in use and delete an install's data on request (write to us with roughly when you installed the app). They are used only to improve Timeslide (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), never for advertising or profiling, and not sold or shared.

The same install ID lets us change the app's access for a single install: for example, to unlock Pro as a gift, or to restrict access to the app in cases of abuse.

From version 1.8.1 the Android app also sends a one-way hash of Android's app-specific device ID (ANDROID_ID). Android gives each app its own value, so it can't be matched with other apps or your Google account, and the hash can't be turned back into the ID. The iPhone app sends a one-way hash of a random ID it keeps in the phone's keychain (never synced to iCloud). Unlike the install ID these stay the same after a reinstall; we use them only so that an access restriction for abuse also applies when the app is reinstalled on the same phone.

If you installed the iPhone app from an Apple Ads ad, the app passes Apple's anonymous attribution token to our server once, during its first day, and our server asks Apple which ad campaign and keyword it came from. This is Apple's own privacy-preserving attribution (AdServices): it involves no tracking across apps and no advertising identifier. We use it only to see which of our ads work.

Transfer links and QR codes

“Transfer to another device” packs your cities and settings into a link or QR code. It is created on your device and goes only where you send it. Anyone who has the link can see the cities in it, so share it like you would share a photo of your list.

What we don't do

This website

The site uses no cookies. It remembers your language choice in your browser's local storage. Fonts, scripts and images are served from this site itself; your browser doesn't contact Google Fonts or any other third party to show the page. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages: Cloudflare processes your IP address to deliver the page and may keep standard server logs (IP address, time, page requested) and network error reports for security and operations, under Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Website analytics. We count visits, and clicks on the App Store and Google Play buttons, with datafirst, our own analytics service. It runs from this site's own address, sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. For each page view your browser sends the page path (without query strings, apart from campaign tags such as utm_source), the referring website's domain, the page title, how long the page was in view and how far you scrolled, the domain of any other website you follow a link to, and, as with any request, your IP address and browser user agent. On our server the IP address is used only to look up your country and, together with a random value that changes every day and is then deleted, to make a daily visitor code; the IP address itself is not stored. We keep the page path, referring domain, country, device type, browser and operating system, the time the page was in view, how far you scrolled, the domains of websites you followed links to, the daily code and the time, for up to 25 months. Because the daily value is deleted, the code can't be linked back to you or across days. Data is processed on our hosting provider Railway's servers. We use it only to understand how the site is used (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR); it is not used for advertising or profiling and not shared.

Children

Timeslide is suitable for all ages. It asks no one for personal data; the anonymous statistics above are the same for everyone.

Your rights

Apart from the anonymous Android statistics above (which we delete on request), we hold no data about you. Your data lives on your devices and, if you use them, in your own iCloud or Google account — removing the app and turning off sync or backup deletes it. If you're in the EU, UK or elsewhere with data-protection rights and have a question, write to us and we'll answer.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
